Cold & Chill, Bless the Lord (Dan. 3:69)
While not as absolute as Divine Law, Murphy's law proves to be quite accurate in many situations. So it is that during one of the coldest periods that we have had during my time here at St. Joseph's, we are having some problems with our HVAC system in the church. It's doing all it can to keep the upstairs at a reasonable temperature, but I have had to turn off the downstairs heat for the time being.
As you might guess, there's many others who are also having difficulties with their heat at this time and our problem is not as critical as the heat in people's homes. I will be having a repairman come out this upcoming week to look at the system, but, in the meantime, the church will be a bit colder than usual. Since tonight will be getting into the single digit temperatures and I'm not sure what temperature it will be in the Church tomorrow morning, I have decided to cancel the 9:30am Mass for January 21st, 2024. We'll still have the 11am Mass in the hopes that the heat will have enough time to warm up the church.
With the authority given to me as Pastor, I dispense anyone who lives or is visiting within the parish boundaries (Swain county & the Qualla Boundary/Cherokee) from their Sunday obligation to attend Mass, if they so desire. Please be aware that you are still obligated to the Divine Law to "Keep Holy the Lord's Day" in a suitable manner by prayer (watch Mass online, read the Sacred Scriptures, pray the Holy Rosary, or other prayerful actions) and by avoiding any unnecessary work.
If you have any questions, as always, feel free to contact me! Good bless and may His love warm your hearts on these chilly days & nights!
